El rol de Indian Hedgehog en el sistema osteoarticular

Abstract

El presente artículo hace revisión de las vías íntimas del accionar y regulación de la proteína Indian Hedgehog (Ihh) en la esqueletogénesis embrionaria y en el desarrollo del esqueleto en la vida post-natal. Ihh también se expresa en la reparación de fracturas y en procesos patológicos del sistema osteoarticular tales como osteocondritis, osteoartritis, enfermedad del disco intervertebral y oncología ósea. Las revisiones demuestran que las vías de señalización y expresión de Ihh que se producen en condiciones embriológicas y desarrollo del hueso en condiciones normales, intervienen también en la patogenia molecular de las afecciones mencionadas, pudiendo éstas constituir motivos de futuras investigaciones con fines terapéuticos.

This article reviews the pathways by which the Indian Hedgehog protein (Ihh) acts and regulates embryonic skeletogenesis and in the development of the skeleton during postbirth life. Ihh is also expressed in the repair of fractures and pathological processes of the osteoarticular system, such as osteochondritis, osteoarthritis, intervertebral disk disease and bone oncology. The reviews show that the signaling and expression pathways of Ihh which are produced in embryological conditions and in the development of bones in normal conditions, also take part in the molecular pathogeny of the aforementioned conditions, thus justifying research with therapeutic purposes.
