dc.description.abstract
In Argentina, there have been discussions that question the historical denial and invisibility of African descendants and important steps have been taken towards the recognition of their existence. In recent decades, the presence of Afro-descendant issues on public policy agendas has increased significantly. However, in despite of these advances, the country does not yet have specific educational policies for this population. This chapter argues that this process cannot be understood without an in-depth analysis. The author proposes an analysis from three spheres or fields of action: the academic field, the political-institutional field, and the field of practices developed or promoted by social actors of the Afro movement. These axes are individually articulated and together they configure the debates on Afro-descendants and higher education in Argentina.
