dc.description.abstract
In this chapter, most recent advances of sample preparation strategies directly hyphenated to mass spectrometry analyzes are assessed from a green analytical chemistry perspective. The chapter is divided into three main sections that focus on different extraction approaches including liquid extraction, solid-based extraction, and laser/thermal extraction/desorption. In this regard, the aspects constituting a green analytical method are weighed and compared not only in terms of environmental compatibility but also of analytical performance. To conclude, future perspectives of the field are presented toward the improvement in compatibility of direct sample preparation to mass spectrometry as well as new paradigms to consider for green assessment of these methodologies.
