The history of comics and the history of sexual immorality shared paths more than once, as in the sexual caricatures of Marie Antoinette at the verge of the French Revolution; as in the conversion of Harry Donenfeld from publisher of spicy and erotic magazines to the publisher of Superman; as when Hugh Hefner, at his peak at the end of the 1950s, signed for Playboy the talents of some of the greatest comic artists available (Jack Cole, Harvey Kurtzman and Bill Elder); as in the fanzines produced in San Francisco in the 1960s;, as in the post-Francoist Spain in the 1970s.
