Primera aproximación a los artefactos de molienda del sudeste del lago del Colhué Huapi (Chubut, Argentina)

Abstract

El bajo de Sarmiento (Chubut, Argentina) ha ofrecido un entorno privilegiado para el desarrollo de la vida humana a lo largo del Holoceno. Durante décadas se consideró que los grupos cazadores-recolectores que habitaron esta zona basaron su economía en la caza de mamíferos terrestres, principalmente de Lama guanicoe. No obstante, las nuevas evidencias sugieren una diversificación en la economía en momentos particulares, al incorporar nuevos recursos y/o tecnologías para procesarlos. En este marco, el objetivo del presente trabajo es realizar una primera caracterización de los artefactos de molienda hallados en el sector sudeste del lago Colhué Huapi. Para dicho fin se analizó su distribución y disposición espacial, así como variables dimensionales, de estado de conservación y las características tecno-morfológicas generales. Los resultados advierten sobre un elevado número de artefactos activos y pasivos elaborados con materias primas disponibles localmente, cuya diversidad de formas, pesos y estados de conservación sugieren un equipamiento pesado del espacio. Sumados a otras tecnologías —como la cerámica e instrumental específico para la pesca—, los artefactos analizados señalarían una intensificación en el aprovechamiento de recursos hacia fines del Holoceno tardío indicando, asimismo, un lugar de importancia para las prácticas de molienda en la vida de los pueblos cazadores-recolectores que habitaron esta zona.

The Sarmiento Basin (Chubut, Argentina) has provided a privileged environment for human life to develop throughout the Holocene. For decades it was thought that the groups that inhabited this area based their economy on the hunting of terrestrial mammals, mainly Lama guanicoe. However, the new evidence suggests a diversification of the economy at certain times, adding new resources, technologies and/or ways of processing them. Within this framework, the objetives of this work were to investigate the presence and distribution of grinding artifacts at the intra and intersite levels and carry out the first techno-morphological and morphological-functional characterisation of grinding artifacts found in the south-eastern sector of the Colhué Huapi lake. The results reveal a significant number of active and passive artifacts made with local raw materials, whose diversity of shapes, weights, and arrangement suggests an equipment of space and an occupational redundancy of the sites. Alongside other technologies -such as ceramics and specific fishing artifacts- these findings indicate an intensification in the use of resources towards the end of the late Holocene, highlighting the importance of grinding practices in the lives of the hunter-gatherers who inhabited this area.
