El Protectorado Español en Marruecos y las geografías imaginarias con América Latina

Abstract

La zona del Protectorado Español en Marruecos ocupó un lugar central para la conexión hispanoamericano-árabe en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Intelectuales africanistas y andalucistas, diplomáticos y pensadores de la diáspora árabe en Sudamérica elaboraron narrativas de aproximación que tuvieron como eje el pasado común de al-Ándalus y la búsqueda de un lugar relevante en la escena mundial de la época. Figuras como Blas Infante, Rodolfo Gil Benumeya, Salomón Abud y Carlos de Baraibar concibieron singulares puntos de contacto ideológico y político entre España, el mundo árabe y América Latina. En sus escritos procuraron establecer similitudes, paralelismos e influencias entre estos escenarios, como en un juego de espejos y reflejos. Este impulso de encuentro estuvo marcado por el desarrollo de geografías imaginarias, al tiempo que fueron pensados y recreados los Otros intra-nacionales y transnacionales. Se trata de un discurso heterogéneo que circuló en terrenos aparentemente incompatibles: desde la justificación de la acción colonial española hasta las experiencias de emancipación y liberación entre ambos mundos. Esta saga de intercambios nos permite vislumbrar la emergencia temprana de sólidas redes trasnacionales entre dichos espacios. Asimismo, constituye aún hoy una fuente de inspiración para el desarrollo de acciones de cooperación en materia cultural y política entre el mundo árabe y América Latina.

The area of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco occupied a central place for the Hispanic-American – Arab connection in the first half of the 20th century. Africanist and Andalusian intellectuals, diplomats and thinkers of the Arab diaspora in South America elaborated narratives of approximation that centers on the common past of al-Andalus and the search for a relevant place in the world scene of the time. Personalities like Blas Infante, Rodolfo Gil Benumeya, Salomón Abud and Carlos de Baraibar conceived singular points of ideological and political contact between Spain, the Arab world and Latin America. In their writings they tried to establish similarities, parallels and influences between these scenarios, as in a game of mirrors and reflections. This impulse of encounter was marked by the development of imaginary geographies, while intra-national and transnational Others were thought and recreated. It is a heterogeneous discourse that circulated in apparently incompatible fields: from the justification of Spanish colonial action to the experiences of emancipation and liberation between the two worlds. This saga of exchanges allows us to glimpse the early emergence of solid transnational networks between these spaces. It is also a source of inspiration for the development of cultural and political cooperation between the Arab world and Latin America.
