Un hotel, una misión y una estancia: algunos lugares de investigación zoológica en América del Sur (1890-1920)

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza tres sitios donde se realizaron investigaciones embrio-lógicas sobre animales sudamericanos entre fines del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX: un puesto misionero en el Chaco paraguayo, un hotel en las sierras cordobesas y una estancia en la costa rioplatense, estos dos últimos en la Argentina. El estudio del funcionamiento de estos lugares y de los personajes que por allí pasaron permite ver cómo estos sitios sirvieron de nodos en los itinerarios de los científicos y en la recopilación y circulación de objetos e información. Ello muestra la variedad de los lugares de trabajo científico y su relación con las infraestructuras que modelan la formación y ocupación del territorio.

This paper analyses three sites where research on the development of some South American animals was carried out between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries: a missionary post in the Paraguayan Chaco, a hotel located in the Sierras of Córdoba, and a livestock farm on the coast of the Río de la Plata, the latter two in Argentina. The study of how these places functioned and of the people who passed through them allows us to see how these sites served as nodes in the itineraries of the scientists and in the gathering and circulation of objects and information. This shows the variety of places for conducting scientifc work and their relationship to the infrastructures that shape the formation and occupation of the territory.
