Without my people, I am nothing

Abstract

The article presents the trajectory of an indigenous women´s leadership. Nancy López belongs to the Wichí people, and she is a radio broadcaster, niyat (traditional leader) of her community, founder of the interethnic organisation ARETEDE, activist and defender of women’s and indigenous rights in the Department of San Martín, province of Salta. Her trajectory shows how global discourses (about environment, leadership, women empowerment) connect with local experiences. It also points out the many difficulties faced by indigenous women when they assume leadership roles.
