De lo tradicional a lo popular

Abstract

Este artículo propone indagar en las diferentes concepciones de lo popular en el universo hispanoamericano.Se parte de las definiciones de los pensadores románticos que intentaron circunscribir lo popular a las manifestaciones culturales de carácter ancestral rural y oral, y se analiza la impronta de esta perspectiva teórica en los estudios desarrollados en el ámbito hispánico por Ramón Menéndez Pidal. Por último, se ponen en debate los conceptos de tradicional, popular y masivo a la luz del desarrollo de los aportes de las distintas vertientes teóricas del siglo XX desde la antropología, la historia, la filosofía, la sociología política y la crítica literaria.

This article proposes to investigate the different conceptions of “popular” in the Hispanic American universe. It starts from the definitions of the romantic thinkers who tried to circumscribe the popular to the cultural manifestations of rural and oral ancestral character, and, afterwards, the imprint of this theoretical perspective in the studies developed in the Hispanic field by Ramón Menéndez Pidal is analyzed. Finally, the concepts of traditional, popular and massive culture are debated in light of the development of the contributions of the different theoretical aspects of the 20th century from anthropology, history, philosophy, political sociology and literary criticism.
