Resumen
As global warming persists, Argentina’s vineyards are expanding towards Southern latitudes, and Patagonia has emerged as the southernmost wine-growing region in the world. Given that Patagonia is one of the windiest regions globally, this article aims to provide a comprehensive review of the limited available literature regarding the impact of wind on grapevines. Several studies have been conducted in regions such as the Salinas Valley in California, the Swan Valley in Australia, and the Western Cape Province in South Africa, where wind plays a significant role in the terroir. The findings from these studies suggest that windbreaks can affect vine growth, yield components, and fruit composition. Consequently, this study emphasizes the necessity for further research on the effects of wind on grapevines and the importance of understanding and effectively managing these effects to ensure sustainable viticulture in windy regions.
