Reestructuración productiva y flexibilización laboral: Una revisión de los impactos del cambio organizativo y tecnológico sobre el trabajo

Abstract

Este artículo ofrece una lectura retrospectiva sobre las motivaciones que impulsaron nuestro trabajo de investigación doctoral, en el cual revelamos la cara oculta del proceso de reestructuración productiva y modernización tecnológica llevado a cabo por Telefónica de España a finales de la década de 1990. En aquella oportunidad, investigamos el impacto menos visible de ese proceso de reestructuración en la organización del trabajo y las condiciones laborales de los empleados/as de la compañía, así como en los/as trabajadores/as afectados por la externalización de los servicios de atención al cliente. Específicamente, aprovechando la perspectiva que otorga el tiempo transcurrido, el texto reconsidera algunos de las problemáticas clave que guiaron nuestro trabajo y que siguen siendo relevantes para el campo de la Sociología del Trabajo, como la flexibilización productiva y la tercerización laboral. A partir de un recorrido que hilvana los hallazgos de la tesis doctoral con las investigaciones posteriores, que amplificaron sus interrogantes iniciales, tratamos de evidenciar ciertas líneas de continuidad entre las tendencias de flexibilización de la producción que se iniciaron en el contexto de la reestructuración productiva de los años noventa y las dinámicas contemporáneas de tercerización laboral en el marco de los procesos de reestructuración y digitalización de la economía contemporánea.

This article offers a retrospective reading of the motivations that drove our doctoral research work, in which we revealed the hidden face of the process of productive restructuring and technological modernization carried out by Telefónica de España in the late 1990s. On that occasion, we investigated the less visible impact of this restructuring process on the work organization and working conditions of the company’s employees, as well as on the workers affected by the outsourcing of customer services. Specifically, taking advantage of the perspective granted by the elapsed time, the text reconsiders some of the key issues that guided our work and that are still relevant to the field of the Sociology of Work, such as productive flexibilization and labor outsourcing. From a journey that links the findings of the doctoral thesis with subsequent research, which amplified its initial questions, we try to highlight certain lines of continuity between the trends of production flexibilization that began in the context of the productive restructuring of the 1990s and the contemporary dynamics of labor outsourcing in the context of the processes of restructuring and digitization of the contemporary economy.
