Apología y profecía: Los cristianos orientales frente a la crisis del gobierno de Marco Aurelio

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo será profundizar el análisis que hacían los cristianos de su relación con el Estado romano durante el período Marco Aurelio y cómo los acontecimientos que marcaron la vida imperial repercutían en las comunidades y en sus discursos. Cada sector dentro del cristianismo propondrá estrategias para hacer frente a la crisis. De todas las ramas del cristianismo será la proto-ortodoxa la más preocupada por la adecuación de su discurso a los cánones estatales. Su evaluación de la realidad imperial bajo Marco Aurelio reconoció que el poder estatal era un buen refugio para protegerse de sus enemigos: cristianos heterodoxos, paganos o adherentes otros cultos orientales. Paralelamente, el poder estatal no veía una amenaza en el cristianismo, sino un simple chivo expiatorio para las tensiones que generaban las crisis económicas y sociales. El Estado operaba como verdugo de la furia popular, dando un marco legal a sus descontentos.

The objective of this work is to delve into the analysis that the Christiansmade from their relationship with the roman State during the period of MarcusAurelius and how the events that marked the imperial life had repercussions onthe communities and in their speeches. Each sector within Christianity will proposestrategies to face the crisis. From all branches of Christianity will be the proto-orthodox one the most preoccupied for the fitting of their speech to the Statecanons. Their assessment of imperial reality under Marcus Aurelius recognizedthat the State power was a good refuge to protect from their enemies: heterodoxChristians, pagans or adherents to other oriental cults. Equally, the State powerdidn’t see any threat in Christianity, just simply a scapegoat for the tensions thatgenerated the economical a social crisis. The State operated as the executor ofpopular rage, giving the legal framework to their discontent.
