Diálogos conceptuales para la construcción de una historia feminista del Diseño del siglo XX

Abstract

En esta comunicación describiremos de qué manera los avances realizados en el marco del proyecto de investigación «Mujeres hacedoras: hacia una historia feminista del Diseño del siglo XX» permitieron enunciar nuevos interrogantes respecto de su objeto de estudio, esto fue posible a partir de la realización de tres seminarios internos de lectura, organizados por el equipo de investigación, a fin de discutir las categorías conceptuales centrales del proyecto. La metodología implementada durante los mismos fue de tipo cualitativa, siendo la revisión documental la principal técnica motorizada. En estos espacios se evidenció que la categoría de invisibilización patriarcal desconocía discusiones ya superadas en los debates articulados entre la crítica historiográfica y los estudios de género, empobreciendo la potencialidad de la casuística como estrategia en el relevamiento de material empírico. Frente a ello decidimos modificar el objetivo general de la investigación para analizar el discurso historiográfico hegemónico sobre el diseño en el siglo XX, atendiendo a las formas de inclusión disciplinar de las mujeres en tanto que objeto y sujeto de diseño, e historizar la producción de mujeres diseñadoras, reparando en las vinculaciones que establecen con los significados y sistemas de jerarquización patriarcal al interior del propio campo disciplinar.

This communication aims to describe how the advances made within the framework of the research project «Women Makers: towards a feminist history of the Design of the 20th Century», allowed us to state new questions regarding its object of study. This was possible from the realization of three internal reading seminars organized by the research team to discuss the central conceptual categories of the project. The methodology implemented during them was qualitative, with a documentary review being the main technique motorized. In these spaces, it was evident that the category of patriarchal invisibility—central in our proposal—was unaware of discussions already overcome in the debates articulated between historiographical criticism and gender studies, impoverishing the potentiality of casuistry as a strategy in the survey of empirical material. Faced with this, we decided to modify the general objective of the research to analyze the hegemonic historiographic discourse on design in the 20th century, taking into account the forms of disciplinary inclusion of women as objects and subjects of Design, and historicize the production of women designers, paying attention to the links they establish with the meanings and systems of patriarchal hierarchization within the disciplinary field itself.
