Sitio Las Gárgolas -supuesta Capilla Montalvo- Luján

Abstract

Presentamos una síntesis de las investigaciones en el sitio arqueológico Las gárgolas (LG), calles 9 de Julio y San Martín, Partido de Luján, Provincia de Buenos Aires. El lugar corresponde a una ocupación que se originaría en la época de la Colonia, pasando por el siglo XIX -restos de una vivienda- y llegando hasta la actualidad. La información documental sugiere que en el terreno o en su proximidad se encontrarían restos de la antigua Capilla Montalvo, fundada en 1685, de la que derivaría la actual Basílica de Luján, ubicada enfrente del sitio. La vinculación de parte de los restos hallados en el sitio con la ocupación humana de época colonial e independiente en la zona reviste especial interés para la comunidad de Luján.Se reseña el proceso social y político que se fue dando a partir de la llegada del Equipo de Arqueología de la Universidad Nacional de Luján, en 2015. Abarca una síntesis de las tareas arqueológicas desarrolladas y las distintas instancias surgidas del intercambio con las autoridades locales, los grupos religiosos, el dueño del predio y los habitantes locales.

We present a synthesis of the archaeological research at Las gárgolas (LG) site, placed between streets 9 de Julio and San Martín, Lujan, Province of Buenos Aires, is presented. The place corresponds to an occupation that would have been originated in Colonial times, covering the nineteenth century -the remains of a house- and reaching the present day. A Given documentary evidence, it is most likely that the remains of the old Montalvo Chapel, founded in 1685, lies in the site or nearby. This chapel originated the current Basilica of Lujan, which is located in front of the site. The association of the recovered object with the human occupation of the colonial and independent period in the area is of special interest to the community of Lujan. In this chapter, the social and political process that took place from the arrival of the Archeology Team of the National University of Lujan in 2015 is reviewed. It covers a synthesis of the archaeological activities developed and the dialog established with the local authorities, religious groups, the owner of the property, and local inhabitants.
