Between 1990 and 2009, the Laboratorio de Arqueología del CENPAT realized rescue archaeology of around 137 human skeletons found from sites in the Northeast territory of the province of Chubut. Five of the skeletons (3.9%) were articulated and in good preservation, 13 (10%) were partially articulated and showed diverse weathering stages, while the rest suffered important anthropic and natural alterations. This study, together with the artifacts, food remains, settlement patterns and mobility, permitted to recognize aspects which were unknown concerning the history, culture, and biology of early hunter-gatherers from the area. During June 2010, First Nations from Puerto Madryn, Rawson, Trelew, Gaiman, and Dolavon, requested the suspension of the rescue archaeology given that they considered it an act of desecration of the graves. This request was strictly respected from that time on. However, in 2011 two human burials, in which the archaeologists did not intervene, were looted and destroyed. In the following article, arguments are presented in favor for the continuation of rescue archaeology of the sites which were impacted and are at high risk. In compliment with the National Law 25.743, work should continue with the consent and monitoring of the First Nations communities.
