El don en el origen del estado hobbesiano

Abstract

En el presente artículo se discute la interpretación que hace Esposito de Hobbes en "Communitas" con el objetivo de poner en cuestión algunos aspectos de la teoría del filósofo italiano. Éste considera al pensamiento del inglés la máxima expresión del paradigma inmunitario y asocia al Leviatán con la immunitas. Para refutar esta asociación, se muestra que se puede encontrar un don en el origen del Estado hobbesiano. El momento sacrificial de éste, que Esposito considera un aspecto fundamental de su carácter inmunitario aparece también como un don: el Leviatán existe porque los súbditos le han donado su vida y su muerte. Este análisis nos permite mostrar la relación entre comunidad y sacrificio que existe en occidente y discutir la distinción radical que hace Esposito entre communitas e immunitas.

The present article will discuss Esposito’s interpretation of Hobbes developed in Communitas. The article’s aim is to question some aspects of this Italian philosopher’s theory. He considers the English philosopher as the highest expression of the immunity paradigm, and associates Leviathan with immunitas. In order to refute this relationship, the article will show that it is possible to find a gift in the origin of Hobbes’s State. The sacrifice moment of this State, considered by Esposito a fundamental aspect of its immunity character, also shows as a gift: the Leviathan exists because subjects donated their own life and death. This analysis allows us to show the relationship between community and sacrifice existing in the western world, and discuss the radical distinction between communitas and immunitas that Esposito explores.
