“Turismo femenino”: Cambios y permanencias en la pedagogía para el ocio de las mujeres argentinas en los años 50: el caso de la guía Peuser

Abstract

El presente trabajo se propone analizar la relación entre mujeres y turismo en la década de 1950 entendiendo que se trata de un momento bisagra entre el largo periodo conservador previo y la liberación que comienza a plasmarse más explícitamente a partir de la década siguiente. La hipótesis que acompaña este análisis es que el turismo también formó parte de este 'compás de espera', pudiendo observar en esta actividad las tensiones entre elementos tradicionales y otros novedosos. Para ello, tomamos como elemento empírico de referencia una serie de artículos de las guías Peuser de turismo de esta década incorporados en la sección de 'Turismo femenino'. A pesar de la dificultad de trabajar con materiales dispersos y poco sistematizados, entendemos que el corpus seleccionado nos permite analizar esta sección de las guías como dispositivo de una pedagogía turística femenina. Para ello utilizamos los aportes teóricos de Raymond Williams, pudiendo a partir de ellos encontrar elementos dominantes, pero también otros alternativos o emergentes que dan cuenta de este momento de cambio en ciernes.

This paper aims to analyze the relationship between women and tourism in the 1950s, understanding that it is a pivotal moment between the long previous conservative period and the liberation that begins to take shape more explicitly from the following decade. The hypothesis that accompanies this analysis is that tourism was also part of this “waiting period”, being able to observe in this activity the tensions between traditional elements and other new ones. To do this, we take as an empirical reference element a series of articles from the Peuser tourism guides of this decade incorporated in the “Women's Tourism” section. Despite the difficulty of working with dispersed and poorly systematized materials, we understand that the selected corpus allows us to analyze this section of the guides as a device for a feminine tourist pedagogy. To do this we use the theoretical contributions of Raymond Williams, being able to find dominant elements from them, but also other alternative or emerging ones that account for this moment of change in the making.
