Los alcances de la crítica contra la justicia ateniense en la comedia Avispas de Aristófanes

Abstract

Este artículo indaga los alcances y los límites de la crítica contra el poder judicial en Avispas a partir del análisis comparativo de la figura de Filocleón y del coro de jueces. Algunos autores han sostenido la hipótesis de que Avispas apunta contra el sistema judicial y democrático en su conjunto. Sin embargo, a nuestro modo de ver, el complejo juego de identificación y diferencia entre Filocleón y el coro termina por restringir el alcance generalizado de la sátira y circunscribirla a los abusos particulares de los malos jueces atenienses, representados por el personaje de Filocleón.

This paper explores the scope and limits of the critique against the judicial power in Wasps from the comparative analysis of the figure of Philocleon and the chorus of judges. Some authors have argued the hypothesis that Wasps is targeted against the democratic and judicial system as a whole. However, in our view, the complex game of identification and difference between Philocleon and the chorus ends up restricting the general scope of the satire and circumscribing it to particular abuses of bad Athenian judges, represented by the character of Philocleon.
