Encontrarse, compartir, resistir: Una “nueva construcción” del candombe (afro)uruguayo en Buenos Aires

Abstract

El trabajo analiza la expansión del candombe uruguayo en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, una de las manifestaciones culturales afroamericanas que ha crecido y adquirido mayor importancia en las últimas décadas. Introducida por inmigrantes (afro)uruguayos en la década del 80, esta práctica cultural ha ido gradualmente superando su condición de emblema identitario nacional y étnico-racial oriental para ser practicado, crecientemente, por jóvenes blancos porteños de clase media. Se realiza un resumen de la historia de este desarrollo y se hace referencia a los problemas que enfrenta el candombe en la ocupación del espacio urbano local. Principalmente, se analizan los procesos de apropiación y resignificación llevados a cabo por los nuevos grupos de candombe, así como la construcción que hace del candombe una agrupación de afrodescendientes uruguayos. El trabajo concluye marcando las diferencias pero también las convergencias entre ambos grupos en torno a la práctica de dicha manifestación cultural.

The work analizes the expansion of the uruguayan candombe in the city of Buenos Aires, one of the afro-american cultural manfiestations that has grown and gained a great deal of importance in the last decades. Introduced by afro-uruguayan immigrants in the 80’s, this cultural practice has gradually exceeded its condition of national and racial-ethnic identifying emblem to be performed, growingly, by young caucasian middle class argentineans. A summary is made of the history of this development and it refers to the problems that the candombe faces in the occupation of the urban local space. Mainly, it analizes the process of appropriation and redefinition carried out by the new groups of candombe, as well as the construction which makes candombe a group of afrodescendent uruguayans. The work concludes stating the differences but also the convergences between both groups regarding the practice of the cultural manifestation previously mentioned.
