Literatura y visualidad: entre el diario La Nación y sus suplementos (1902-1909)

Abstract

Este artículo analiza la relación entre los textos literarios y la visualidad en el diario argentino La Nación y el espacio de sus suplementos. Se indaga si la publicación de imágenes —ya sea en el cuerpo del diario, ya en los dos suplementos (el literario y el ilustrado)— afectó realmente la literatura, atendiendo tanto a los relatos escritos especialmente para el periódico como los textos extranjeros traducidos, adaptados o publicados en su idioma original. El artículo se compartimenta en tres partes: la primera estudia la distribución de la literatura entre el cuerpo del diario y el suplemento literario en 1902, considerando la continuidad con los años anteriores; la segunda, la redistribución de textos a partir de la inclusión de literatura en el suplemento ilustrado; y finalmente la relación entre texto, imagen y visualidad en su cuerpo central durante el periodo 1902-1909.

This article analyzes the relationship between the literary texts and the visuality in the main body of the Argentine newspaper La Nación and its supplements. It seeks to determine whether the placement of images within the main body of the journal or in its literary and illustrated supplements actually impacted the literature featured in La Nación. This analysis takes into consideration that some of its texts were written especially for the newspaper, while other foreign texts were adapted, translated, or published in their original language. This paper is divided into three parts. The first part examines the distribution of literature in the main body of the diary and its literary supplement in 1902 while also regarding its continuity with the previous years of publication. The second part analyzes the changes in the texts’ arrangement after the introduction of literature in the illustrated supplement. Finally, the third part focuses on the interplay between text, image, and visuality in its central body, particularly during the period from 1902 to 1909.
