Malvinas, democracia y geopolítica (1965-2015)

Abstract

A 40 años del retorno de la democracia en Argentina y 41 de la Guerra de las Islas Malvinas, nos proponemos indagar, a modo de balance, sobre dos cuestiones que consideramos centrales para el análisis de la historia reciente de la causa Malvinas: el tratamiento de los gobiernos de la democracia argentina (tipo de acuerdos, tono del reclamo, actores involucrados, etc.) y la estrategia política de expansión británica en Malvinas y en el océano Atlántico Sur. Ambas dimensiones deben ser analizadas de forma yuxtapuesta, dada la relación entre las formas de abogar por la soberanía por parte de Argentina y el modo en que Gran Bretaña avanzó en su estrategia de control, exploración y explotación de los recursos estratégicos que provee el territorio usurpado y, en consecuencia, la profundización de la militarización del océano Atlántico Sur.

Forty years after the return of democracy in Argentina and 41 years after the Malvinas Islands War, we propose to investigate, by way of a balance, two issues that we consider central to the analysis of the recent history of the Malvinas cause: the treatment of the governments of the Argentine democracy (type of agreements, tone of the claim, actors involved, etc.) and the political strategy of British expansion in the Malvinas and the South Atlantic Ocean. Both dimensions should be analyzed in juxtaposition, given the relationship between the ways in which Argentina advocated sovereignty and the way in which Britain advanced in its strategy of control, exploration and exploitation of the strategic resources provided by the usurped territory and, consequently, the deepening of the militarization of the South Atlantic Ocean.
