Retención de dígitos (WAIS III): validez convergente y normas para población argentina entre 40 y 91 años

Abstract

El subtest Retención de Dígitos de la batería WAIS III es de uso frecuente en evaluación neuropsicológica, aportando medidas de memoria de trabajo y amplitud atencional. Sin embargo, se carece de normas actualizadas y de evidencias de validez convergente en contexto argentino. El objetivo fue analizar la validez convergente del subtest Retención de Dígitos-WAIS III en Argentina, y obtener datos normativos según educación y edad. Participaron 306 argentinos. Se administró Retención de Dígitos-WAIS III, MoCA y tareas de fluidez. Se obtuvieron correlaciones positivas entre Retención de Dígitos-WAIS III, MoCA y fluidez. La educación mejoró la ejecución de Retención de Dígitos-WAIS III, aunque el tamaño del efecto fue pequeño. La edad no influyó significativamente. Consecuentemente se proveen normas con puntajes de corte únicamente según educación. En conclusión, se obtuvo para el subtest Retención de Dígitos-WAIS III una validez convergente aceptable, aunque al límite, siendo conveniente nuevos estudios que aporten mayor claridad.

Digit Span of the WAIS III battery is frequently used in neuropsychological assessment, providing measures of working memory and attention span. However, there is a lack of update normative data and evidence of convergent validity in Argentina. The objective was to analyze the convergent validity of the Digit Span-WAIS III subtest in Argentina and obtain normative data according to education and age. 306 argentines participated. Digit Span-WAIS III, MoCA test, and fluency tasks were administered. Positive correlations were obtained between Digit Span-WAIS III, MoCA test and fluency. Education improved Digit Span-WAIS III performance, although the effect size was small. Age did not have a significant influence. Consequently, norms are provided with cut scores based only on education. In conclusion, this study offers Argentine normative data for the Digit SpanWAIS III, as well as evidence of acceptable, although borderline, convergent validity.
