La plaga infernal de los periodistas ha llegado”: El Liberal y los primeros indicios para la profesionalización del periodismo correntino

Abstract

En términos generales, la profesionalización del periodismo argentino tuvo lugar entre finales delsiglo XIX y principios del siglo XX, a partir de la convergencia de factores como una alfabetizacióncreciente, la conformación de un mercado de bienes culturales, el desarrollo técnico de la industriay una percepción cada vez más precisa sobre el gusto del público. Sin embargo, este proceso no fue homogéneo en todo el territorio nacional, dado que los alcances de la modernización que envolvía al fenómeno presentaban características diferenciadas. En Corrientes, por ejemplo, incluso durante “la euforia progresista del centenario” la formación de una prensa moderna, comercial e independiente del poder político no lograba su lugar y mantenía aún características propias de la prensa política.Los primeros indicios de la profesionalización del periodismo correntino, enlazados con la conformación de un campo intelectual de raíz local, estarían vinculados al ejercicio de este oficio en periódicos que aún se declaraban tribuna partidaria. El objetivo de este artículo es indagar sobre el diario El Liberal y el grupo de periodistas que, entre 1900 y 1930, disputaron el propósito de la actividad de la prensa local, a través del análisis documental y la confección de un corpus, referenciando a los periodistas y sus actividades políticas e intelectuales.

In general terms, the professionalization of Argentine journalism took place between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, from the convergence of factors such as growing literacy, the formation of a market for cultural goods, the technical development of the industry and an increasingly accurate perception of public taste. However, this process was not homogeneous throughout the national territory, since the scope of the modernization that involved the phenomenon presented differentiated characteristics. In Corrientes, for example, even during “the progressive euphoria of the centenary” the formation of a modern, commercial and independent press of political power did not find its place and still maintained characteristics typical of the political press. The first indications of the professionalization of journalism from Corrientes, linked to the formation of an intellectual field with local roots, would be linked to the exercise of this trade in newspapers that still declared themselves a party forum. The objective of this article is to inquire about the newspaper El Liberal and the group of journalists who, between 1900 and 1930, disputed the purpose of the activity of the local press, through documentary analysis and the preparation of a corpus, referencing the journalists and their political and intellectual activities.
