Resumen

As a result of cysteine proteinases' activity, type I collagen is cleaved into several fragments which are released into circulation. Some of them, such as the C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX) rearrangement, can be quantified by specific immunoassay. This motif derived from newly −CTX form, but with age is susceptible of α synthesized collagen is in the −CTX. The objective of the study was spontaneous nonenzymatic isomerization to −CTX levels in 313 healthy normal subjects. For this purpose, 173 prepuberal children (70 girls and 103 boys) and 30 adolescents (18 girls and 12 boy from 11 to 12 years) attending public schools (Vte Lopez, Bs. As., Argentina) were assessed; 20 premenopausal (37 ± 8 years) and 20 postmenopausal women (58 ± 5 years) where −CTX (μg/ mM creatinine) was determined in the 2nd void urine were studied. The −CTX were prepuberal α ELISA (AlphaCTX, Nordic Bioscience). Results: The levels of children 20 ± 7.2 (6 to b7, 20 ± 7.2 years); 15.7 ± 4.5 (7 to b8 years); 14.9 ± 6.7 (8 to b9 years); adolescents 4.2 ± 1.9, premenopausal 0.61 ± 0.26 and −CTX follow an exponential α postmenopausal women 0.93 ± 0.58. The levels of function of age (y= 26,446e0.2133x, r 2= 0.89; pb0.001). These results show that −CTX has the highest level in the active modeling process and confirm that urinary in young bone will be resorbed; during normal remodeling, there is a diminution because the increment of half-life of collagen is released. During estrogen depletion, the significant elevation probably reflects an increased bone turnover. Grant from UBA.
