El plan de lecturas de San Martín: reflexiones sobre los libros donados a la Biblioteca Nacional de Lima

Abstract

El artículo ofrece resultados de una investigación en curso sobre el plan de lecturas de San Martín a partir de la lista o inventario de libros que donó a la Biblioteca Nacional del Perú en 1821. Los resultados se organizan en dos secciones: la primera expone las principales características del corpus de libros con el fin de analizar los contextos de su formación, y la diversidad de géneros, autores y temas que fueron objeto de atención, hojeados o leídos por San Martín. La segunda presta particular atención a los materiales impresos sobre la revolución francesa en tanto constituyó una temática angular de su programa de lecturas por interpretarla como “acontecimiento” y proceso inescindible con el derrotero de las revoluciones políticas e independencias hispanoamericanas.

The article offers results of an ongoing research on San Martín's reading plan based on the list or inventory of books that he donated to the National Library of Peru in 1821. The results are organised in two sections: the first one sets out the main characteristics of the corpus of books in order to analyse the contexts of their formation, and the diversity of genres, authors and subjects that were the object of attention, browsed or read by San Martín. The second pays particular attention to the printed materials on the French Revolution, as it constituted a key theme in his reading programme, interpreting it as an "event" and a process inseparable from the course of the Spanish-American political revolutions and independence.
