El joven E.T.A. Hoffmann y el diletantismo

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza la concepción del diletantismo de E.T.A. Hoffmann a partir del estudio de sus textos autobiográficos, es decir, de sus diarios y cartas. En primer lugar, se presenta el significado y el contexto de aparición de la crítica a los diletantes en Alemania en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Luego, se detallan las particularidades de la concepción de Hoffmann sobre este fenómeno y sus consideraciones sobre su propio diletantismo. Si bien Hoffmann no intenta elaborar una reflexión estética sistemática ni específica sobre el diletantismo como Moritz o Goethe y Schiller, las consideraciones marginales que él tiene sobre este tema permiten conocer su visión sobre la institución artística contemporánea y su autopercepción como artista.

This article studies E.T.A. Hoffmann's conception of dilettantism on the basis of his autobiographical texts, i.e. his diaries and letters. In the first place, we focus on the meaning and emergence of the critic of dilettantes in Germany in the second half of the eighteenth century. Then, we examine the specific features of Hoffmann's conception of this phenomenon and his reflections on his own dilettantism. Although Hoffmann does not attempt to elaborate neither a systematic nor a specific aesthetic theory of dilettantism like Moritz or Goethe and Schiller, the marginal considerations he has on this subject provide an insight into his view of the contemporary art institution and his selfperception as an artist.
