Una nueva época en la iglesia católica: Continuidades y rupturas en la recepción de la II Conferencia del Consejo Episcopal Latinoamericano (CELAM) en la prensa católica argentina (1968)

Abstract

En el siguiente artículo repasamos la prensa católica argentina con el objetivo de identificar las interpretaciones sobre la II Conferencia del Consejo Episcopal Latinoamericano en Medellín (1968). Mientras que, en el primer apartado, realizamos un breve balance historiográfico, en el segundo, nos centramos en la recepción en la jerarquía católica. Luego examinamos desde un abordaje cualitativo diferentes publicaciones tales como Criterio, Teología, Revista del Centro de Investigación y Acción Social, Enlace, Cristianismo y Revolución, Jauja y Roma, representativas de la diversidad político-teológica presente en el catolicismo. Las revistas son agrupadas en tres conjuntos a partir del sentido dado a Medellín a) en continuidad con el Vaticano II, b) el comienzo de una nueva época en la Iglesia o c) el quiebre definitivo con la tradición. Se concluye que, la II Conferencia, habría profundizado el proceso de secularización interna al mismo tiempo que abría una nueva etapa de recepción del Vaticano II.

In the following paper, we examine the Argentine Catholic press looking for the interpretations of the Second Conference of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM) in Medellín (1968). Whereas in the first segment we present a brief historiographical assessment, in the second we focus on the reception in the Catholic hierarchy. Afterwards we review different publications such as Criterio, Teología, Revista del Centro de Investigación y Acción Social, Enlace, Cristianismo y Revolución, Jauja and Roma, demonstrative of the politicaltheological diversity present in Catholicism. The journals are then gathered into three groups according to the meaning given to Medellín: a) in continuity with the Second Vatican, b) the beginning of a new era in the Catholic Church, or c) a definitive discontinuity with tradition. We conclude that the Second Conference deepened the process of internal secularization while opening a new period in the reception of the Second Vatican.
