Yo es otro: Apuntes sobre el narrador y su inmortalidad en Bomarzo, de Manuel Mujica Lainez

Abstract

Este trabajo parte de considerar la publicación de Bomarzo (1962) de Manuel Mujica Lainez como un hito cultural que se impuso como un gran desafío para los cánones de lectura de la época. Las dificultades en la recepción de la obra, han quedado reflejadas en los testimonios críticos contemporáneos e, incluso, se aprecian evidencias de su persistencia años más tarde. En esa estela, resulta pertinente analizar la configuración del narrador, puesto que en su especificidad reside gran parte de la novedad de la novela. Para ello, además de tener en cuenta el componente fantástico, abordaremos la obra como una autoficción que jaquea los presupuestos historiográficos sostenidos, en gran medida, por la novela histórica de cuño tradicional.

This work starts from considering the publication of Bomarzo (1962) by Manuel Mujica Lainez as a cultural milestone that imposed itself as a great challenge to the reading canons of the time. The difficulties in the work’s acceptance have been reflected in contemporary critical testimonies, and there is even evidence of its persistence years later. In that wake, it is pertinent to analyze the configuration of the narrator, since in his specificity lies much of the novel’s novelty. To this end, in addition to taking into account the fantastic component, we will approach the work as an autofiction that challenges the historiographical assumptions sustained, to a large extent, by the traditional historical novel.
