Ser joven, varón y estudiar en la periferia patagónica argentina

Abstract

En este trabajo se presentan resultados que forman parte de una investigación doctoral, cuyo objeto es atender las relaciones entre derecho a la educación, escolaridad secundaria obligatoria y condiciones de vida. Aquí, interesa revisar cómo las experiencias de la condición juvenil, de clase y género son vivenciadas en el barrio y repercuten en sus recorridos escolares. Para ello, se recuperan entrevistas realizadas durante el año 2022 a estudiantes de primer y último año de una escuela secundaria emplazada en la periferia de una ciudad intermedia en la Patagonia argentina. Sostenemos que los sentidos expresados por los estudiantes entrevistados permiten describir un momento de sus vidas en que ellos perciben que dejan de ser vistos como chicos para pasar a ser vistos como adultos potencialmente peligrosos, y ello afecta a sus experiencias juveniles y sus recorridos escolares.

This paper presents results that are part of a doctoral research, which aims to address the relationships between the right to education, compulsory secondary schooling and living conditions. Here, it is interesting to review how the experiences of youth, class and gender conditions are experienced in the neighborhood and impact the students’ schooling. For this purpose, interviews conducted during the year 2022 with first and last year students from a secondary school located in the outskirts of an intermediate city in the Argentine Patagonia are recovered. We uphold that the meanings expressed by the interviewed students allow us to describe a moment in their lives in which they perceive that they are no longer seen as children but as potentially dangerous adults, and that this affects their youthful experiences and their school paths.
