Las celebraciones de la beatificación de San Ignacio en la Provincia jesuítica del Paraguay

Abstract

La significativa presencia de la Compañía de Jesús en la región platina tiene como preámbulo una de las celebraciones sustanciales en la conformación del simbólico arte festivo barroco. La metodología utilizada para las presentes notas es el análisis descriptivo de las Cartas Anuas, que fueron la fuente fundamental para los historiadores jesuitas de los siglos XVII y XVIII, como los que le siguieron. Esta limitación responde al sesgo de otro tipo de fuentes que son casi nulas. En la fiesta barroca participaban todos los habitantes, pero se analiza en particular la articulación formada a través de la comunicación del acontecimiento y las reacciones demostrativas de cada lugar donde llegó la noticia. Por lo tanto, el despliegue de toda la parafernalia que la ocasión ameritaba estará íntimamente ligada a los escasos recursos económicos con que se contaba, aunque con un alto nivel de religiosidad.

The significant presence of the Society of Jesus in the Platina region has as a preamble one of the substantial celebrations in the shaping of the symbolic baroque festive art. The methodology used for the present notes is the descriptive analysis of the Annual Letters, which were the fundamental source for Jesuit historians of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as those that followed. This limitation responds to the bias of other types of sources which are almost non–existent. All the inhabitants took part in the baroque festival, but we analyse in particular the articulation formed through the communication of the event and the de–mostrative reactions of each place where the news reached. Therefore, the deployment of all the paraphernalia that the occasion merited was intimately linked to the scarce economic resources that were available, although with a high level of religiosity.
