Resumen

Clothing constitutes one of the elements of materiality that most strongly serve to configuresocial boundaries, define identities and mark gender and quality differences. From a variedset of sources, female clothing practices in Córdoba, Viceroyalty of Peru, during the lastquarter of the 16th century are approached with the aim of showing the particular featuresof the “habito de española” as well as the play of tensions perceived in the heart of a colonialsociety under construction.
