Terapia miofuncional orofacial como alternativa al CPAP para tratamiento en SAOS: Una revisión sistemática

Abstract

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo hacer una revisión sistemática acerca del estado actual de la producción científica relacionada con el tratamiento del Síndrome de Apnea Obstructiva del Sueño (SAOS), con un enfoque especial en la terapia miofuncional orofacial como alternativa al CPAP. Para tal fin se realizó una búsqueda a través de Lilacs, MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane y Scielo y se seleccionaron artículos de revistas indexadas. Dentro de los pacientes se encuentran hombres, mujeres y niños con SAOS leve, moderado y severo diagnosticado con polisomnografía y síntomas clínicos, sin ninguna otra comorbilidad. Los resultados mostraron que la mayoría de los autores coinciden en que es necesario ofrecer terapias alternativas al CPAP, especialmente aquellas que consisten en el entrenamiento de las estructuras faríngeas y los músculos orofaciales, puesto que estas han dejado evidencias significativas de mejoría tanto en la salud como en la calidad de vida de los pacientes.

This research aimed to carry out a systematic review about the current state of scientific production related to the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS), with a special focus on alternative therapies to CPAP. For this purpose, a search was carried out through Lilacs, MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane and Scielo and articles from indexed journals were selected. Among the patients are men, women and children with mild, moderate and severe OSAS diagnosed with polysomnography and clinical symptoms, without any other comorbidity. The results showed that most authors agree that it is necessary to offer alternative therapies to CPAP, especially those that consist of training the pharyngeal structures and orofacial muscles, since these have left significant evidence of improvement in both health and in the quality of life of patients.
