“Tendremos que vivir en este lado”: Construcción de habitabilidad desde la perspectiva de género

Abstract

La Vuelta del Paraguayo es un barrio ribereño de la ciudad de Santa Fe (Argentina) que se localiza en el valle aluvial del río Paraná y tiene la peculiaridad de que cíclicamente sufre inundaciones. En este artículo se indaga por las estrategias de construcción de habitabilidad en sus propias casas que se despliegan para poder convivir con la “invasión” del río. La categoría de habitabilidad es la que guía todo el escrito, ya que es una noción que permite leer la problemática en clave de género, porque son las mujeres quienes socialmente están encargadas de hacer habitables los espacios para la reproducción. A partir de la realización de entrevistas etnográficas a mujeres que habitan el barrio, se identificó que la construcción del espacio “habitable” tiene diferentes estrategias en función de la altura del río.

La Vuelta del Paraguayo is a riverside neighborhood of the city of Santa Fe that is located in the alluvial valley of the Paraná River and has the peculiarity that it suffers from cyclical flooding. In this article we are interested in investigating what are the strategies of construction of habitability in their own houses to be able to live with the “invasion” of the river. The category of habitability is what will guide us throughout the writing, since it is a notion that allows us to read the problem in terms of gender, because it is women who are socially in charge of making spaces habitable for reproduction. From ethnographic interviews with women who live in the neighborhood, we were able to identify that the construction of the “inhabitable” space has different strategies depending on the height of the river.

La Vuelta del Paraguaio é uma margem fluvial da cidade de Santa Fé, que está localizada no vale aluvial do rio Paraná, e está sujeita à particularidade de sofrer inundações cíclicas. Neste artigo interessa-nos investigar quais foram as estratégias de construção de habitabilidade em suas próprias casas, que só foram implementadas para poderem conviver com a “invasão” do rio. A categoria habitabilidade é a que nos guiará ao longo do artigo, pois é uma noção que nos permite ler o problema em termos de gênero, pois são as mulheres que têm a responsabilidade social de tornar habitáveis os espaços de reprodução. Ao realizar entrevistas etnográficas com mulheres que vivem no bairro, identificamos que a construção de um espaço “habitável” tem estratégias diferentes dependendo da altura do rio.
