Por una Geografía científica: Fred K. Schaefer_1953

Abstract

En septiembre de 2023 se cumplieron siete décadas del inicio de la revolución cuantitativa en Geografía la cual daría como resultado el paradigma de la Geografía Cuantitativa. En este escrito se presenta una reflexión sobre la contribución fundamental de Fred K. Schaefer la cual dio inicio a este proceso al abrir el camino para la construcción y el desarrollo del marco teórico que le permite a la Geografía ocupar un lugar de importancia en el contexto científico. El artículo presenta: la experiencia personal ante la primera lectura del artículo fundacional, una síntesis biográfica del autor y los fundamentos centrales de su propuesta con la finalidad de definir una geografía científica. Las palabras finales apuntan a pensar su vigencia.

In September 2023, seven decades have passed since the start of the quantitative revolution in Geography, which result in the paradigm of Quantitative Geography. This paper presents a consideration on the fundamental contribution of Fred K. Schaefer which started this process by opening the way for the construction and development of the theoretical framework that allows Geography to occupy an important place in the scientific context. The article presents: the personal experience before the first reading of the founding article, a biographical synthesis of the author and the central foundations of his proposal in order to define a scientific geography. The final words aim to think about its validity.
