La diferenciación social en los concejos castellanos bajomedievales: algunos apuntes comparativos entre Bonilla de la Sierra y Olmedo a finales del siglo XV

Abstract

El objetivo del presente artículo es realizar un estudio de la estructura social comunitaria de dos concejos de la región abulense, Bonilla de la Sierra y Olmedo, a finales del siglo XV. El análisis de los padrones fiscales nos permitirá constatar que el fenómeno de la diferenciación social no se da de manera homogénea ni aún en dos concejos de la misma región. Asimismo, comprobaremos que la jerarquización no es exclusiva del mundo rural; en las villas, las diferencias sociales son incluso más importantes. Por último, buscaremos identificar algunas de las características de los segmentos superiores comunitarios. La holgada situación patrimonial se acompaña y refuerza con el cumplimiento de tareas políticas y de gestión en la comunidad.

The aim of this article is to analyze the community social structure of two councils of the region of Avila at the end of the 15th century. The study of taxpayer’s registers from Bonilla de la Sierra and Olmedos´s will allow us to verify that the differentiation process does not occur in a homogeneous way, even in two councils of the same region. Furthermore, we verify the phenomenon of differentiation is not exclusive to the rural world. Finally, we identify some of the characteristics of the village´s upper strata. The privileged patrimonial situation is accompanied and reinforced by the fulfillment of political and management tasks in the community.
