Tránsitos migratorios y representaciones sociales: el caso de las travestis y mujeres trans sudamericanas que residen en Argentina

Abstract

El artículo analiza los tránsitos migratorios de las travestis y mujeres trans sudamericanas que habitan en el AMBA (Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires). Para ello, se focaliza en los contextos de origen observando las principales características de la migración e inserción en la sociedad receptora. Además, se describen las representaciones sociales que construyen en relación con este territorio comprendiendo como se han modificado sus expectativas a lo largo del tiempo. Se emplea un enfoque cualitativo con base en la Teoría Fundamentada y se utiliza la entrevista en profundidad como técnica de investigación principal complementándola con la observación participante. El artículo halló que la migración es consecuencia de las múltiples hostilidades que experimentan en las sociedades de origen. Además fue descubierto que las travestis y mujeres trans construyen representaciones sociales que poseen incidencia en la decisión de migrar. Mediante estas representaciones, por un lado caracterizan al AMBA como un escenario abierto para expresar sus identidades de género, pero por el otro, creen que es un escenario en el que perduran discriminaciones.

The article analyzes the transit migration of South American transvestites and trans women who live in the AMBA (Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area). To do this, it focuses on the contexts of origin, observing the main characteristics of migration and insertion in the receiving society. In addition, the social representations that they build in relation to this territory are described, understanding how their expectations have changed over time. A qualitative approach based on Grounded Theory is implemented and the indepth interview is used as the main research technique, complementing it with participant observation. The article found that migration is a consequence of the multiple hostilities experienced in the societies of origin. In addition, it was discovered that transvestites and trans women build social representations that have an impact on the decision to migrate. Through these representations, on the one hand, they characterize the AMBA as an open stage to express their gender identities, but on the other, they believe that it is a stage in which discriminations persist.
