A lo largo del tiempo… Secuencia cronológica del arte rupestre en Guachipas (Salta, Noroeste, Argentina)

Abstract

Se presenta la secuencia cronológica de los grabados y pinturas rupestres del departamento Guachipas, Salta, Noroeste argentino que comprende cinco grupos estilísticos: Inicial, Temprano, Tardío, Inca e Hispano-Indígena/Colonial. Los mismos se categorizan según la morfología de las representaciones, la técnica utilizada, las tonalidades y las escenas que componen teniendo en cuenta su disposición sobre la roca matriz y las superposiciones de motivos. Por último, y a partir de las investigaciones arqueológicas realizadas durante la última década, estos grupos estilísticos se integran a los procesos sociales ocurridos en la región.

The authors present the chronological sequence of rock engravings and paintings in the department of Guachipas, Salta province, Northwest Argentina. It consists of five stylistic groups: Initial, Early, Late, Inca, and Hispanic-Indigenous/ Colonial, as characterized by the morphology of the representations, the technique of production, shades of colors, and the scenes comprised, taking into account their distribution on the rock surface and superimpositions of motifs. Finally, based on the archaeological research carried out during the last decade, these stylistic groups have been incorporated in the social processes that occurred in the region.
