El Opus Dei y la profesionalización del trabajo social

Abstract

Este artículo explora los sentidos de la intervención en torno a la pobreza de la organización Impulso Social, fuertemente vinculada a la Prelatura Personal del Opus Dei. Para ello, indaga sobre las acciones desarrolladas ante dicha problemática, mediante la observación participante y las entrevistas, tanto a referentes como a voluntarias que asisten a dichas actividades. La perspectiva etnográfica permite comprender el afán de formar integralmente a quienes asisten a dichas instancias. Así, da cuenta de que esta iniciativa forma a las niñas y jóvenes voluntarias en el “profesionalismo”. Como se verá, en las diversas actividades ofrecidas, aprenden y practican conocimientos de distinta índole y modos de acercarse y tratar al otro. En este sentido, respondiendo al carisma específico que la Prelatura propone, estas experiencias les permitirán desempeñarse de manera adecuada en sus tareas cotidianas y adquirir habilidades para desenvolverse correctamente en sus ocupaciones ordinarias futuras que son vía a la santidad.

This paper explores the meaning that social work has for an ONG named Impulso Social which is closely related to the Personal Prelature of Opus Dei. Therefore, it studies its actions through participant observation and by interviewing its leaders and volunteers. The ethnographic perspective allows us to understand the integral formative aim these actions have. Specifically, these initiatives instruct the girls and teenage volunteers in “professionalism”. As it will be seen, in the diverse activities offered, they learn and put into practice different knowledge and ways of approaching and treating others. Thus, related to its specific charisma, this experience allows them to properly develop in their daily affairs and future jobs, which are the suitable path to sanctify themselves.
