Reconstrucción y análisis sobre la primera “villa” de Buenos Aires (1932-1935)

Abstract

Las narrativas sobre los orígenes de la informalidad urbana en Argentina suelen establecer punto de partida difuso, situado en algún momento entre las décadas de 1940 y 1950, cuando las migraciones internas desbordaron las principales ciudades y la cuestión asumió mayor visibilidad. Sin embargo, el primer barrio precario conocido en el país como “villa”, surgió en torno a la zona portuaria de Buenos Aires bajo la Gran Depresión y estuvo habitado mayoritariamente por inmigrantes de origen europeo. Con el objetivo de aportar precisión a las periodizaciones tradicionales y enriquecer el análisis histórico sobre la ciudad informal, este artículo sistematiza e indaga críticamente diversas fuentes sobre un espacio urbano cuya breve existencia se extendió entre 1932 y 1935.

Reconstruction and analysis on the first “villa” of Buenos Aires (1932-1935) Narratives about the origins of urban informality in Argentina tend to establish a diffuse starting point, located sometime between the 1940s and 1950s, when internal migrations overwhelmed the main cities and the issue assumed greater visibility. However, the first precarious neighborhood known in the country as a “villa” arose around the port area of Buenos Aires during the Great Depression and was inhabited mainly by immigrants of European origin. With the aim of providing precision to traditional periodizations and enriching the historical analysis of the informal city, this article systematizes and critically analyzes various sources on an urban space whose brief existence took place between 1932 and 1935.
