Género, ciencia y afectos en Margarita Práxedes Muñoz

Abstract

Este trabajo se propone abordar los dos proyectos más importantes de la escritora peruana Margarita Práxedes Muñoz, la novela La evolución de Paulina (1893) y el periódico La Filosofía Positiva (1898), para analizar el modo particular en que esta mujer de ciencias concibe su relación con la cultura científica finisecular. Si bien ambos proyectos se presentan como obras de propaganda, destinadas a difundir el positivismo comtiano, la reivindicación del afecto como una dimensión crucial de la subjetividad femenina y de su relación con el conocimiento desencadena una serie de efectos en los escritos de Práxedes Muñoz que exhiben, ya sea a través de la disidencia o del trazado de nuevas alianzas, las nuevas tensiones de género que ese imaginario científico en ciernes dispara.

This paper focuses on the two most important projects of the Peruvian writer Margarita Práxedes Muñoz, the novel La evolución de Paulina (1893) and the newspaper La Filosofía Positiva (1898), to analyze the particular way in which this woman of science conceives her relationship with the fin-de-siècle scientific culture. Although both projects are presented as propaganda, intended to spread Comtian positivism, the vindication of affection as a crucial dimension of female subjectivity and its relationship with knowledge triggers a series of effects in her writings that exhibit, whether through dissidence or the drawing up of new alliances, the new gender tensions that this emerging scientific imaginary incite.
