Plantas empleadas como amuletos de animales entre guaycurúes del Gran Chaco argentino: Una praxis de la homologación ontológica animista

Abstract

En el Gran Chaco las relaciones e influencias inmateriales entre entidades espirituales de animales, de vegetales y de humanos han sido abordadas de manera dispar, tanto por la naturaleza de sus objetivos particulares como por las perspectivas téorico-metodológicas empleadas. El objetivo de esta contribución es identificar y compilar la diversidad de aspectos materiales y simbólicos que participan en las prácticas y conceptualización de las plantas amuleto de animales, así como los patrones de interacción mutua entre ambos, a los fines de interpretar su significación para tres grupos étnicos de la familia lingüística guaycurú del Chaco argentino (moqoit, qom-takshek y qom-ñachilamole’ek). Se pone a prueba la hipótesis de una homologación animística o consustancialización espiritual entre plantas y animales y sus implicancias etnobiológicas. Un total de 62 taxa vegetales presentan fitónimos que aluden a la asociación plantaanimal mencionada (60 identificadas), 37 corresponden a los moqoit, 22 a los qom-takshek y nueve a los qom-ñachilamole’ek. Los datos etnobotánicos totales registrados, es decir, el número de interacciones plantas-animales como amuletos asciende a 76. Se concluye que el empleo de plantas como amuletos de animales se decodifica a través del lenguaje de la potencia, la cual sería intercambiable entre ambos tipos de seres como producto de la homologación ontológica entre ellos. Este fenómeno permite la posibilidad de atraer cualidades entre distintos seres a través de la práctica ritual de las plantas-amuleto de animales debido al vínculo invisible, espiritual de compartir una interioridad similar entre todos los seres, ya sean humanos y no humanos.

A praxis of animist ontological homologation: Plants used as animal amulets among the Guaycurú people of the Argentinian Gran Chaco: A praxis of animist ontological homologation. Relationships and immaterial influences between animals, plants and humans´ spiritual entities in the Gran Chaco region, have been approached differently due to the nature of their particular objectives and to the theoretical-methodological perspectives that have been used. The aim of this paper is to identify and compile the diversity of material and symbolic aspects involved in plants-animal’s amulets, amulets practices and conceptualizations, as well as, mutual interaction patterns between both of them in order to interpret their meaning for three ethnic groups of the Guaycurú linguistic family from Argentinian Chaco (moqoit, qom-takshek and qom-ñachilamole’ek peoples). The present study includes information for testing the hypothesis regarding an animistic homologation or spiritual consubstantiation between plants and animals and its ethnobiological implications. A total of 62 plant taxa present phytonyms that refer to the above mentioned plant-animal association (60 identified), 37 belongs to the moqoit people, 22 to the qom-takshek people and nine to the qom-ñachilamole’ek people. The total ethnobotanical data recorded, that is to say, the number of plant-animal interactions as amulets amounts to 76. It is concluded that the use of plants as animal amulets is decoded through the language of power, which would be interchangeable between both types of beings as a product of the ontological homologation between them. Due to the invisible, spiritual bond of sharing a similar interiority between all beings, human and non-human, this phenomenon allows the attraction of qualities from different beings through the plantsanimal amulet´s ritual practices.
