Las comunidades de cohousing como objeto de Representación Social

Abstract

Las representaciones sociales (RRSS) son un sistema de creencias que se utilizan en el discurso cotidiano para comunicar contenidos de la forma más consensuada posible. El papel central de las RRSS se pone de manifiesto en el discurso cotidiano, en el que incluso los interlocutores que no se conocen de cerca son capaces de intercambiar información de manera informal y rápida sobre fenómenos complejos de la economía, la política, la educación, la religión, etc. Las RRSS forman, pues, un cuerpo social de referencia, cuyo contenido puede valorarse de forma diferente de un individuo a otro, pero cuyo significado está ampliamente consensuado. Por otro lado, el cohousing es un arreglo residencial alternativo que consiste en casas o apartamentos individuales frente a un área común y/o una casa común para reuniones de grupo. Estas comunidades podrían considerarse como familias extendidas y se caracterizan por un apoyo social otorgado y recibido sustancialmente más elevado que aquel que se intercambia en vecindarios tradicionales. Basado en las teorías de las RRSS, el objetivo consiste en el análisis de las distintas variedades de comunidades de cohousing y la determinación cuál es, para sus habitantes, la Representación Social de las comunidades. Se concluye que la Representación Social de las comunidades de cohousing comprende dos componentes principales: individualidad (o libertad de elección) y la comunidad. Aunque éstos sean los factores primordiales, es importante tener en cuenta que, en cada comunidad, existen distintos grados de ellos.

Social representations (SSRR) are a system of beliefs that are used in everyday discourse to communicate content in the most consensual way possible. The central role of SSRR is evident in everyday discourse, where even interlocutors who do not know each other closely are able to exchange information informally and quickly about complex phenomena. On the other hand, cohousing is an alternative residential arrangement consisting of individual houses or apartments in front of a common area and/or a common house for group gatherings. These communities could be considered as extended families and are characterized by substantially higher social support given and received than that exchanged in traditional neighborhoods. Considering the increasing social relevance of these communities, the aim of the study was to analyze the different varieties of cohousing communities in Germany. In particular, the social structure and the motives of the inhabitants for their decision to live in a cohousing community were evaluated. In this way, it was intended to inquire into the attributes that, for the residents of these communities, form this set of images, which represent their communities. It is concluded that the Social Representation of cohousing communities comprises two main components: individuality (or freedom of choice) and community. Although these are the primary factors, it is important to keep in mind that, in each community, there are varying degrees of them.
