dc.description.abstract
dc.description.abstract
The development and thermo-energetic evaluation of a new prototype solar collector air heater, with countercurrent flow with porous material under the absorber, is presented. Its absorbing element is a black wedge-shaped plate and a porous matrix of recycled steel. The void factor or porosity of the matrix is ϵ=96%. The collector support box is made of screeds, a material that considerably lowered its cost and weight. The collector was tested in the city of Salta, with forced open circuit flow and a slope of 39° under winter weather conditions. It was tested by heating a residential prototype. The average thermal jump between the inlet and outlet temperatures of the collector was 18 °C, 20 °C and 25 °C, for three mass flows tested: 0.021 Kg/s, 0.025 Kg/s and 0.027 Kg/s, respectively. Experimentally, the instantaneous thermal efficiency curves were obtained, presenting maximum values of 70%, 68%, and 45%, for the three flows tested, respectively. These values indicate a very good thermo-energetic performance of the prototype presented in this work and the convenience of operating it with a mass flow greater than 0.025 Kg/s.
