dc.description.abstract
We evaluated possible differences in Argentines? explicit and implicit attitudes toward their ingroup, Europeans, Africans, Asians, and Latin American immigrants. We also assessed the contributions of right-wing authoritarianism, social dominance orientation, and perspective taking as predictors of explicit and implicit ethnic prejudice. Explicit prejudice was measured with an affective thermometer scale and implicit prejudice with a Five-Group MF-IAT. Gender, impression management, and testing order were entered in the analysis as control variables. Attitudes toward Europeans were significantly more favorable as compared with Africans at the implicit level but not at the explicit level. Our findings suggest that explicit and implicit prejudice, although sharing an evaluative function, respond to different psychological processes and thus have different predictors.
