La madre del libro: Usos y funciones del Corán en la obra de Jorge Luis Borges

Abstract

Abordamos la influencia del Corán en la obra de Jorge Luis Borges. Comenzamos con un breve estado de la cuestión sobre los estudios de Borges y Oriente, especialmente los referidos al islam. A continuación, caracterizamos el uso del texto sagrado islámico por parte del escritor argentino como irreverente, con un fin literario. Luego, sistematizamos las funciones del Corán en la obra borgiana. Por último, consideramos que el principal propósito del Corán para Borges es ser un ejemplo cabal del texto absoluto y eterno, a partir del cual define sus escritos y, sobre todo, una poética de la lectura.

We address the influence of the Koran on Jorge Luis Borges’ work. We begin with a brief state of affairs on the studies of Borges and the Orient, especially those concerning Islam. Next, we characterize the use of the Islamic sacred text by the Argentine writer as irreverent, with a literary purpose. Then, we systematize the functions of the Koran in the Borgian work. Finally, we consider that the main purpose of the Koran for Borges is to be a perfect example of the absolute and eternal text, from which he defines his writings and, above all, a reading poetic.
