Ecos de la tragedia fragmentaria de Sófocles y Eurípides: Laocoonte, Sinón, Los frigios y Filoctetes en la Eneida (2, 1-227)

Abstract

En este trabajo analizaremos algunos aspectos de la tragedia fragmentaria de Sófocles (Laocoonte, Sinón, Los frigios) y Eurípides (Filoctetes), apropiados por Virgilio para la narración de la caída de Troya (específicamente, Aen. 2, 1-227). Es nuestro objetivo identificar y examinar diversos elementos intertextuales que componen los pasajes protagonizados por Laocoonte y Sinón. Intentaremos demostrar, por un lado, que el episodio del sacerdote sugiere algunas respuestas posibles a interrogantes sobre el Laocoonte de Sófocles; por otro, el intenso apego de Virgilio al material fragmentario de ambos trágicos para configurar el personaje del embustero griego, Sinón.

In this work we will analyze some aspects of the fragmentary tragedy of Sophocles (Laocoon, Sinon, Phrygians) and Euripides (Philoctetes), appropriated by Virgil for the narration of the fall of Troy (specifically, Aen. 2, 1-227). It is our objective to identify and examine various intertextual elements that constitute the passages starring Laocoon and Sinón. We will try to demonstrate, on the one hand, that the episode of the priest suggests some possible answers to questions about Sophocles' Laocoon; on the other, Virgil's intense attachment to the fragmentary material of both tragedians to configure the character of the Greek trickster, Sinón.
