Sentimientos, experiencias y refugio judío en Tucumán (Argentina), 1939-1946

Abstract

El trabajo examina una temática relevante pero poco explorada referida a la ruta que le permitió a miles de refugiados judíos polacos salvarse de la guerra y el avance nazi, al salir de Europa a través del Lejano Oriente. Con el fin de articular las escalas de análisis y aproximarme al estudio de esta temática para Tucumán, donde habita una de las comunidades judías más antiguas y grandes del norte argentino, el artículo analiza -desde un enfoque de historia social y con una metodología cualitativa- los testimonios de inmigrantes y refugiados judíos, como Nejome Zaluski de Werchow (1914-1994), quien migró a la provincia en tiempos del nazismo. En el estudio se argumenta el influjo que alcanzaron en sus descripciones sobre la guerra y su impacto en la población judía los ejemplos tomados de la tradición, la biblia y la historia judía. Además, propongo la presencia de un lenguaje común entre los refugiados judíos que sintieron alegría y esperanza ante el futuro que les abría la migración, combinadas con el sufrimiento y la necesidad de honrar a sus familiares muertos en la Shoá. En esa tónica, propongo, también, el contraste entre las percepciones favorables sobre Argentina y las imágenes negativas sobre su pasado europeo.

The work examines a relevant but little-explored theme referring to the route that allowed thousands of Polish Jewish refugees to save themselves from the war and the Nazi advance, leaving Europe through the Far East. In order to articulate the scales of analysis and to approach the study of this subject inTucumán, where one of the oldest and largest Jewish communities in northern Argentina lives, the article analyzes -from a social history approach and with a qualitative methodology- the testimonies of Jewish immigrants and refugees, such as Nejome Zaluski de Werchow (1914-1994), who migrated to the province during Nazi times. The study considers that the influence of their descriptions of the war and its impact on the Jewish population is based on examples taken from tradition, the Bible and Jewish history. Furthermore, it is argued that there is a common language among Jewish refugees who were joyful and optimistic about the future thanks to migration, while they had also both sorrow and the need to honor the relatives who had perished during the Shoah. In this sense, it is also proposed that there is a contrast between their favorable perceptions about Argentina and the negative images of their European past.
