Los bocadillos del folletinista: Croquis y siluetas militares de Eduardo Gutiérrez

Abstract

El artículo analiza Croquis y siluetas militares. Escenas contemporáneas de nuestros campamentos de Eduardo Gutiérrez. Señala el proceso de colección de los relatos, desde la prensa al libro, como ámbito de renegociación de sentidos, y avanza hacia el señalamiento de los aspectos formales y temáticos que permiten unificar la obra. A lo largo del comentario de estos aspectos, interesa destacar elementos disonantes: la pertenencia a la elite porteña de Gutiérrez, sus adscripciones políticas porteñistas y las lecturas que opera sobre problemáticas contemporáneas (la ocupación territorial, el problema del indio, el sistema de fortines, etc.). Todo ello a fin de poder advertir las estrategias empleadas por el discurso reivindicador de la vida militar, en el complejo contexto de emergencia de esta obra hacia 1886, caracterizado por las contradicciones de la modernización finisecular.

The article analyses Croquis y siluetas militares. Escenas contemporáneas de nuestros campamentos by Eduardo Gutiérrez. It points out the process of collection of the stories, from the press to the book, as a sphere of renegotiation of meanings, and moves towards pointing out the formal and thematic aspects that allow the work to be unified. Throughout the commentary on these aspects, it is interesting to highlight dissonant elements: Gutiérrez’s belonging to the porteña elite, his political affiliations favourable to the interests of Buenos Aires and the readings he gives to contemporary issues (territorial occupation, the problem of the indian, the system of strongholds, etc.). All of this in order to be able to notice the strategies employed by the vindicating discourse of military life, in the complex context of the emergence of this work around 1886, characterised by the contradictions of fin-de-siècle modernisation.
