Pensar espacialmente la diócesis de Buenos Aires (siglos XVII-principios del XIX): Abordajes historiográficos y herramientas de investigación

Abstract

La investigación acerca de la Iglesia rioplatense ha sido estimulada por otros campos historiográficos, como los estudios agrarios, la historia de la justicia, la historia misional o de los espacios fronterizos, entre otros. Un sondeo acerca de estas interacciones muestra que si, por un lado, permitieron complejizar sus abordajes, por el otro, desatendieron, con frecuencia, la articulación de los espacios locales con las jurisdicciones más amplias. Este descuido no es exclusivo de los trabajos más recientes y la mayoría de “las historias de la Iglesia” han referido a la diócesis de manera muy laxa e insuficiente. Este artículo privilegia el estudio de los dispositivos religiosos en la construcción del obispado de Buenos Aires y propone una cartografía que ayude a restituir los perfiles históricos del territorio diocesano.

Research on the Church in Rio de la Plata has been stimulated by other historiographical fields, such as agrarian studies, the history of justice, the history of missions or border areas, among others. A survey of these interactions shows that if, on the one hand, they made their approaches more complex, on the other hand, they often neglected the articulation of local spaces with the broader jurisdictions. This neglect is not exclusive to more recent work, and most of the “histories of the Church” have referred to the diocese very laxly and insufficiently. This article privileges the study of the religious devices in the construction of the bishopric of Buenos Aires and proposes a cartography that helps to restore the historical profiles of the diocesan territory.
