Deseos para la eternidad: La fórmula de Abidos y el desarrollo de los Misterios de Osiris en las estelas votivas del Reino Medio egipcio

Abstract

Durante el Reino Medio la ciudad de Abidos se habría transformado en un centro ceremonial y religioso asociado con el auge del culto a Osiris y las celebraciones que se festejaban anualmente en su honor. A raíz de estas celebraciones, varios miembros de las elites egipcias solían peregrinar para dedicar y erigir estelas, levantar capillas y dedicar ofrendas con la intención de asegurarse la continua y eterna participación en los ritos osirianos después de su propia muerte. Al respecto, varias de estas estelas contienen una serie de deseos estandarizados para la otra vida denominados bajo el nombre de la fórmula de Abidos. Así, en este trabajo nos proponemos realizar un estudio sobre la denominada fórmula de Abidos con la intención de vislumbrar sus significantes dentro del mundo social y religioso egipcio y poder comprender y reconstruir el desarrollo de las ceremonias que componían los Misterios de Osiris. Y, por otra parte, nos interesa poder observar la existencia de jerarquías sociales y la diferenciación social hacia el interior de estas elites egipcias entre quienes expresaban sus deseos de ser parte de las fiestas en honor a Osiris y quienes, por otro lado, afirmaban en sus estelas el haber conducido o celebrado dichas ceremonias.

During the Middle Kingdom the city of Abydos would have been transformed into a ceremonial and religious center associated with the rise of the Osiris’ cult and the feasts that were celebrated annually in his honor. Due to these celebrations, several members of the Egyptian elite used to make pilgrimages to dedicate and erect stelae, to build chapels and to dedicate offerings with the intention of assuring the continuous and eternal participation in the Osirian rites after their own death. In this regard, several of these stelae contain a series of standardized wishes for the afterlife called by the name of the Abydos formula. Thus, in this work we aim to study the so-called Abydos formula with the intention of glimpsing its signifiers within the Egyptian social and religious world and to understand the development of the cult of Osiris at Abydos in the Middle Kingdom. Besides we are interested to observe the existence of social hierarchies within those members of the Egyptian elite among those who expressed their desire to be part of the feasts in honor to Osiris and those who, on the other hand, had affirmed in their stelae that they had conducted or celebrated those ceremonies.
